Long Live the Federation!

WARNING: LOTS OF TEXT.

The beginnings of the Federation was a chaotic one. With the notions of 'personal liberties' and 'states rights' running amok in our newly independent republic it came as no surprise that our government was in need of a change. Many supported the notion of a stronger federal government who could keep the more unruly states in check. However, the notions of the Whig movement was still prevalent in our young nation. And as such we went "from the frying pan and into the oven." Chaos continued to rule our nation while all of Europe snickered at our failure. Then, in the year of 1787 sanity finally prevailed and "The Charter for The Federated States of America" was born.

Our charter instilled all of the ideas which make our Federation great today. First, it put all trade, minting, census taking, and polling in the hands of the Federal Government. The reasoning being that states refused to look at the continuation of the nation and thus could not be trusted with such lofty positions. In a similar vein, The Charter also disbanded all state militias and made the Federal Army and Navy the sole recognized armed force in the Federation. Further, The Charter's reforms in government split the government into to branches, The Representative, and the Federal branches. The Representative Branch would have elected officials from each state and territory in Philadelphia to draft and vote on all laws to be passed on the national level. The Federal Branch would have control over all powers the states could not be trusted with, in addition to the power to veto any law that The National Delegate deemed to be counterproductive to the sanctity of The Federation. In order to judge the usefulness of a law, the Federal Branch has 3 Districts; The National Delegate, The Judicial Sector, and The Advocates. The Judicial Sector's sole purpose is to judge the usefulness of laws drafted by the Representative Branch and to settle disputes of infringement of liberties. The Advocate Group was created to mediate the National Delegate's political bias. All recognized political parties have a member in the Advocate Group to attempt to rationalize any national disputes, both internal and external. The Charter also states that all members are subject to renewal of their positions every decade by means of a Federal Election (Judicial members are exempt until their is a vacancy). Every state will get voting power based on population divided by land. Those who gain more than 50% of the votes becomes the new official. When there is a divided vote the Judicial Sector will rule who is better for the continuation of The Federation. And, in an attempt to appease the fringe groups who advocate Whig ideology the People have the right to elect any official out of office who they find politically reprehensible.

With The Charter in place, The Federation could begin to rectify some internal errors. First she raised an army to combat the slew of rebellions popping up over previous federal structure. After that was taken care of The federation could turn her attention to The Spanish problem. The Spaniards had been taking advantage of American instability since the early 1780's. The Floridians had been caught trying to smuggle tobacco and other crops out of the States and into Spain without paying the tariff. Further, Spain refused to allow The federation any use of the Mississippi River despite our obvious claim to the area. Thus, in 1799 The Federation formally declared war on the Spanish in a joint effort with The Revolutionary French. The victory was decisive and post-bellum we gained East and West Florida into our union. Spain was also forced to relinquish Louisiana to the French. However, the reunion was short lived as Louisiana seceded from France in 1802. As she was already fighting a war in Europe and Haiti she simply could not handle an American front and accepted the secession. This worked in favor of both The Louisianne and American governments. In exchange for the land north of the Missouri River the F.S.A. allowed joint access to The Mississippi and 5,000,000 Federal Dollars.

After the spat with the Spanish The Federation decided to assert her dominance to her motherland and hammer out a favorable border of Mayne and disband any troops on foreign soil in exchange for an expressed, written agreement the The federation would ever take Quebec. Fearing more war the British accepted this offer and Our Most Glorious Federation gained her current borders.

The year is now 1830 and Allen Creede has become the National Delegate and the whole world waits with anticipation to see if American volatility has reached her limits.
